以day trading为生可不可行啊？

实在厌倦了早九晚五的码工生活，厌倦了办公室里的勾心斗角。说实在的，挺羡慕njrookie, trendspike的生活，工作时间短，不需要commuting, 不需要为老板顶缸，不需要为下属护短，点点鼠标钱就哗啦哗啦进来了。早上可以送孩子上学，下午可以接孩子放学，为他们做好吃的饭，陪他们写作业。

我知道我没有经验，但我愿意学习。现在每天都在看书看图，希望有一天自己有信心，能够靠DT代替现在收入，或者一半也行。但一边上班，一边自学，真的很累。虽然对工作毫无兴趣，但那毕竟是我养家糊口的勾当，不得不强打精神应付。真要辞了不干，又没有信心能学会炒股赚钱。

大佬们能不能指条捷径，你们都看哪些书？最开始part time怎么做trading的？业绩如何再决定full time 做的？或者直接告诉我死了炒股赚钱这条心，那样我也就安心在码头搬砖头卖苦力了，不用两边纠结了。

我很享受不上班的日子，想干啥就干啥。用富婆的话是，上班为老板拼命，不如自己当老板，为自己拼命。

旋MM，除了DT，还有做商务，做互联网生意都有做大的。多开动脑筋。好运在前头。

I agree with George that DT is a hard way to make a living. it can work if you have realistic goal, but it will take time.

just a few observations fyi:
1 the flexibility in time is over-rated. most manual traders spend lots of time after regular trading hour to review chart and trade. 10-12 hour per day is quite normal.
2 difficult to adapt to trader psychology. so your strategy might be ready, but your mind is not ready. do not trade too big. consistency build confidence. start with 100-200K account and get comfortable and build it up.
3 your physical health will take a toll. back/neck/arm/wrist hurts from sitting in front screen all day long.
4 screen time can not be replaced. the statistical edge is small and it is easy to mistake luck for edge. 10000 hours, ie 5 years are the norm.
5 just when you feel you finally have it under control, mkt will teach you a new lesson.
6 while I know a few 7-figure earners, I do not know anyone who makes that much trading simple TA/PAs. Most of them involve options/futures/spreads/arb.
7 trading changes your view about life - you become too calm and too objective. not sure this is a good thing or a bad thing.
8 having a job / an alternative income is both a curse and a blessing. it distracts you. when you are making money you feel you are wasting your time and your life with your regular job. however it relaxes you as well. I would not quit until one has enough capital and comfort level.
9 build some passive income. trading income, even for the best traders, is not predictable. sometime market just does not present enough volatility / trading opportunities. if you need income from trading to bring bread on the table, you might become impatient, and not let market / trade come to you.

Melody: with your quant/coding skills, you can focus on developing/backtesting strategies while watching mkt. Human can get emotional, but machine will not. also if you really want to jump into this, borrow all the money you can borrow thru mortgage/HELOC. once you go indep, it becomes hard to get credits.

旋妹妹，前几天去了CBOT，200 trader 中，只有两个是女的，和其中一个聊了很长时间，她说，她刚入门时，男女比例是10：1（fresh college graduates passed all the exams)。后来到了谈婚论嫁的年龄，80% 女的离开了，因为Trade时间长了，越来越觉得自己像男人婆了，太Logic，一板一眼了，一点都不Spontaneous，生活乐趣少了很多，耐心也少很多。如果真是这样，对小孩子更不好了。

当然只是一家之谈，如果真有这个心思，去多听听女Trader的感受，再一步一步做决定。

there is another route:

with quant/coding background, you can joint a HF. I know someone who left google to join a vol fund managed by former tsinghua grad. once you are comfortable, you can then go independent.

我怎么觉得一台机子一只股票就能做DT了呢？你们这装备太吓人，都不敢想DT的事了。
我想的是接到电视上看大屏幕，然后放着音乐边跳舞边看盘，再加设置点ALARM，基本不用秒秒钟看了。

是啊，我提及退休，全家只有我老公同意，但也要求我想好退休干什么，免得到时候喊无聊。我说我有很多事情可以做。

我可以在数学俱乐部里全心投入，争取挖掘培养几个wonder kids, 等做出名气来了，我可以开旋老师课堂，教孩子competition math & physics.

我还可以读书，写博客，也许写写连载小说，当个网络作家什么的。

然后我还可以炒股，每天swing trade几次，赚点零花钱。

我儿子女儿都不赞成我回家。我说我在家多培养培养你们，你们一定能做得更好。kao, 两个小兔崽子都说，妈，我不需要你回家来管我，我们已经足够好了。

好多人羡慕你家庭稳定，事业有成，儿女优秀呢，不折腾多好啊，安稳。
不象我，原本埋头拉车，看人家说也要抬头看路，这不跑出去看路太远太久，落后了旅程不说，连原来听话的马车都不见了。正在打造新的车子呢。辛苦不说，亚历山大呀。
不过呢，我很能体会你的感觉，就是那种看着时光流逝的无奈。
你喊着想退休不是一天两天了。估计要RESET一下才会不BORING。 LOL。
换老公不可能，换居住国不现实，换职业有挑战，换城市有难度，换个公司吧，再不成，换个房子吧，给生活一些新鲜的刺激。
我呢，RESET了好几次了，每次没有好坏之分，倒是增加一些新鲜经历和刺激，人活着不就是丰富自己的经历吗。
我家还需要我挣钱养家，所以，我的选择不是太多，不过想折腾，总是充满机会的。
最近被一个老朋友忽悠去他的公司，尝试IT consulting, 完全不同于我以前做事的engineering technologies field. 很新鲜，做得好的话，钱途大大的，huge potential. 而且有我们以前的技术背景，IT的技术很容易上手。这段我从 part time 开始，正好在家好好做饭照顾孩子，但是越来越忙了，而且为了尝试更多机会，为了趁自己还有奶挤，多挤挤，我马上要TAKE IT领域的第二份part time job, 两份工作，两个新领域，同时做，这把年纪，说不辛苦是骗人的。这是reset之后recover的必经阶段。不过，人生还很长，现在不努力以后会更boring. 今天去参加一个small bussiness 的event,很受鼓舞。DC地区政府contract 多，好好努力，钱途大大，到时候可能没时间花钱，更不会想DT和TDF了。LOL

花花这网站不稳定，费劲敲了半天的字，全没了，只好重写。

茶妹笑话我了。我炒股绝对是菜鸟。唯一欣慰的是星期一卖掉的ES，我咬牙死扛，相信自己对大盘的判断应该还是在range里走，没有割肉，今天扭亏为盈了，呵呵，paper money赚了点钱。

茶妹，我看好你的前景，年轻就是好，可以折腾。树挪死人挪活。

我老了，折腾不动了，而且对变化充满了恐惧。有时候想想自己对生活的要求不高，粗茶淡饭，有一个安静没人打搅的地方看看书就很满意了。所以很多时候会觉得厌倦不想干了。年轻的时候我也换过不少公司，其实是工作就有bad day，就有让人抓狂的时候，换一个对我来说可能也没多大帮助，还得从头开始build up credit。不过真的退休回家其实心里也是充满恐惧不安全感，迟迟迈不出这一步。我们这一行，一旦离开，就不太可能回来了。真要回头又要从头干起。所以我得想好一件能有可能代替我现在收入的事情才敢撤退。不多写了，今天灌水太多，该看的书都没看。

这个不认同，女的压力一样大，如果孩子在没管好，不是跳楼的心都有。以前没小孩时觉得钱够了，有了小孩总想给他们最好的。

呵呵，睿教授。SPY五分钟图上出现双底，strong bull bars, 而且sto 和price 出现divergence, BOLL的support都撑住了。 应该是买的信号，可惜不在家没办法paper day trading.
